A key service area of the branch
addresses the mental health related needs of the workplace. Work
related stress is becoming more and more recognized as an influence
which, combined with the stress of day-to-day living, can result
in reduced productivity, reduced job satisfaction, and increased
absenteeism. It is estimated that lost productivity due to depression,
anxiety, and substance abuse costs the Canadian economy over 11.1
billion dollars in direct costs and triple that if indirect costs
are included. Our current economic and social environment places
added pressure on people who strive to lead productive, satisfying
lives. These pressures occasionally lead to problems and difficulties
that affect an employee's life and create a need for professional
intervention and support.
The Employee Assistance Program is designed to
address these concerns through the development of a comprehensive
system of professional support, which includes assessment, referral,
short-term counseling and follow-up.
